Are you Ready?

Normally when you hear that question you think about your status with Jesus; am I forgiven, have I made Jesus my Lord, and will Heaven be my home. While that should be the first thought, for the purpose of this message, a shifting of thought for a moment.

I implore you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2 (nkjv)

In those verses, the Apostle Paul uses the word "brethren" to indicate that he is talking to Believers, so I will follow suite. Due to the event that has taken grip on the globe these last few months we have lived our lives seemingly under a shadow. Some under the “shadow of the Almighty” and others under a shadow of darkness and fear. Yes, there are two different groups of Believer’s. There are those who walk, talk and breathe “shadow of the Almighty” and those who speak those words but walk in a shadow of darkness and fear. One cannot do both.

There is an answer to the darkness and fear. There is an answer to the issues that darkness and fear cause. There is a Light that cannot be hidden once discovered. His Name is Christ Jesus, YHWH, Yoshua!

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:4-5 (esv)

As Believers we carry that Light, the same Light, the Light of Christ. The Light in us is what sustains our life. If one’s life is overshadowed by fear and darkness it will cease to achieve its purpose thereby extinguishing the peace and joy that comes from the Light. One must discover and maintain proximity to Light if they are to sustain the Light within. The Light is meant to shine for all to see.

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14(kjv)

An example of this can be found in creation. An example that cannot be overlooked because in all things we are to find and replicate Christ.

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. Genesis 1:16 (kjv)

We know these two lights to be the sun (greater) and the moon (lesser). The sun is a light that needs no other source to achieve its purpose; it is the source of all light. The moon on the other hand was not created to be a source of light but to reflect it. We can and should equate Jesus the source of Light, to the greater or true light and Believers, to the lesser or reflecting light.

The degree that you reflect is based on your direct contact with the source. We must step into the light so that our light shines brightly! The closer and longer we remain in proximity to the true source of light the more we will project His Light to a world of cities living in darkness. The more we seek the light the more we reflect it!

In closing I want to say three things about this global event, this pandemic. First and foremost, God is still in control. While we do not always understand His ways there is always purpose. It’s what we do with that purpose that matters and screams who we are even when we don’t understand.

Second, there are those who have lost family and friends while others have not. There are those who have lost employment while others have not. There are those who feel they have lost everything while others have not. There are those who are still working as “essential workers” for instance in the hospitals that are exhausted and worn. There are also those who have lost their peace and confidence in the Lord. Regardless, WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT. To imply otherwise is to diminish that loss and struggle of others.

And third… many, many people have indeed grown in their walk with the Lord through this time: they have learned that they in fact they ARE the church, that we can be together even if we have to find new and creative ways to do it, and we can walk in Light and Life all while using the wisdom God gave us. So many have found freedom in their relationship with God and a peace they never knew they could have in the midst of crisis. There are those who have put away unforgiveness, pain, and bitterness. There are those who have found new joy and excitement in worshipping the Lord. To all of those (a group in which I include myself), hold fast to that!

He (God) will keep those in perfect peace, whose mind is fixed on Him, because they trust Him. Isaiah 26:3 (nkjv)

Eventually, the doors to the buildings will reopen. We must enter in differently! If you have found a deeper walk with God during this time praise Him and hold fast to that! Be that Light and example to all. If on the other hand you have not been transformed during this time, it’s not to late to let go of the sin of bitterness and strife, let go of unforgiveness and hate. It takes humility and wisdom to cut off that which has bound you from the freedom you are to have with fellow Believes AND in and through Christ Jesus. Bitterness, strife, unforgiveness and the like utterly hinder our relationship with God and is not pleasing to Him.

leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:24 (nkjv)

Are you ready to go back into the building? Are you ready to go back in differently? Are you ready to be and do what you have been called to? Are you ready to lay it all down at the alter and begin again?

Our days are numbered and we are ALL one breath away from standing before the Lord so with one final scripture, I encourage you…

Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7(nkjv)

“you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace… " Isaiah 55:12 (nkjv)
