On the Go with Jesus

Testamonies 2016

Mark and Holly have a genuine heart to seek and serve the lost.  On the Go Mission is a true reflection of the work of Jesus and we are so blessed to be a part of it!”

Dave and Katie L.

Pennsylvania

“While in Mt Airy, NC we had the opportunity to witness On the Go Mission in a personal way. During our stay at Mayberry Campground we were impressed with the Christian outreach offered to everyone through the C.O.F.F.E.E invitation. The morning fellowship and sharing of God's love and saving grace was offered to everyone.  In a world that needs God's message, On the Go Mission is bringing it to everyone along their path. The mission is to aid anyone, anywhere with the Word and with hands on   ministry.  On The Go      Mission seeks out places and people who need God's love and message. What a challenge and what a faith this On the Go Mission inspires.”

Connie and Al Y.

“On the Go Mission shares encouragement with Christians and shares God’s word with the lost as God opens the doors but most of all they have the love of Jesus for everyone that they meet. I thank God for them.”

To "GO" when we want to stay!

To “GO” When We Want to Stay!

Mt. Airy, North Carolina AKA Mayberry Campgrounds! A cliché from the get go! It’s wonderful and it’s oozing with history and nostalgia! The obvious references to the Andy Griffith show are everywhere from Aunt Bees BBQ and Goobers eateries to the Andy Griffith Museum, Andy Griffith Pkwy, Barney Fife Blvd, and Opie Taylor Lane (our current address). This was the birth place of the afore mentioned popular TV show. The pilot for the show was created here and all of the “sets” i.e. the Sheriff’s Office, gas station, and hotel are here even the old Darlings shack. Each place is fully manned and includes a reservation book for the next downtown “car tour”. A tour by the way offered from the back seat of one of three Sheriff squad cars, driven by a acknowledgeable “acting sheriff” and comes standard with a siren blast at the start of each tour!

The streets here are lined with diners, old-timey ice cream parlors, music stores, and antique shops. There is also an Amphitheater in the middle of the downtown area as well as the “Historic Earle Theater” which has hosted some of the greatest bluegrass musicians of its time. The Earle as it is lovingly called has the longest running radio station second only to the Grand Ole Opry. Every Thursday night from 7-9 pm they have an “open” Gospel Bluegrass Jam Session that draws the greatest local talent and the occasional missionary who loves very much to sing! I have enjoyed it so much that (after much prayer) I have decided to learn the guitar. Mark purchased a parlor size guitar for me and I am determined to learn and glorify God in music as we travel. We both will very much miss Thursday nights at the Earle.

Here in Mt. Airy you will find the Mayberry Campgrounds located just off Hwy 74. We are calling this place home for now and have discovered no shortage of historical information about even this place. This land originally belonged to Eng and Chang Bunker; the original Siamese twins. They were very famous and can be found if you google them. They were conjoined twins, each had a wife, Eng had 10 children and Chang had 11, and both died at 52 years old. Their story is fascinating and I encourage you to look them up. Anyway, the current owners are third and fourth generation Bunkers and a nicer bunch of folks would be hard to find. They have allowed us to enjoy openly everything that we do for the Lord with no hindrance what so ever. Because of it we have been able to share the Gospel in new ways from the weekday C.O.F.F.E.E. Ministry, Pancake Saturday and ministry on Sundays! We have also provided morning Church Service for a local assisted living facility where God used this ministry to draw a man named John E. in to a new relationship with Christ! Interestingly, John E. comes every Sunday and sits by a man named…Andy Taylor!

Our time here at Mayberry Campgrounds has been blessed but while here we have experienced great loses too. We’ve had friends in Texas go home to the Lord and were not able to make it back for the funerals. This has been very heart breaking and an adjustment that has been difficult. Closer to home as some of you know we are traveling with 4 dogs; two labs Jilly and Hazel, a Chihuahua named Gabriel and a Yorkie named Penny. The two labs belong to Mark and recently he lost Hazel to some weird internal parasite. He carried her to the hospital but she had massive internal bleeding and could not be saved. This was a very sad day.

We have now been here at Mayberry Campgrounds for 40 days and are paid through the 12th of this month; eight more days! We are now preparing for departure and still feel coastal northeast is the way to continue. Our sites are set for Virginia and Pennsylvania next as we work our way towards Vermont and Maine.  God willing we will be back in Tennessee in September for a bit then home to Texas for the holidays. If you reside in any of the previously mentioned states and would like to have a couple of missionaries come to your local church we would be honored to visit and share how God is using On The Go Mission!

Until next time,

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”  Numbers 6:24-26

Who Do You Say That I Am?

What would you say if someone walked up to you on the street and asked you, "who do you say that I am"? Would you give them a blank stare or would you actually think about it before deciding they were crazy and walk away?! In today's world you might not get or give the answer that you would have given 10 years ago. Society has changed so drastically that people don't care who you say they are let alone care about who you think they are. Can I get an amen?!

In the book of Mark that is exactly the question the Jesus asked His own disciples. That is like asking your mother or father who do you say that I am. The answer on most days is going to be the obvious one...you are my child. Jesus however, was looking for a deeper understanding of who He was to them. He had spent some 3 years with them teaching, preaching, healing and doing great miracles before them. He told them in so many words who He was and what was going to happen to Him and that He would be going away. He would be going to a place they could not go but that He would return for them...yet the question remained.

In Matthew16:13-16 Jesus asks His disciples a question:

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

In the following scripture Peter gives the correct answer...Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” In John 14:6-7, Jesus goes on further to tell them, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Why do think that Jesus asked that question to begin with? Lets answer it by asking our own question...When you were in school why did the teacher give you a test? The test was to make sure that you had learned the material and moreover that you would retain the information. The question posed by Jesus was in affect a review question but more than that, the answer was the answer to ALL the questions on the test! An answer they would need to remember in the coming days.

Peter had personally found Jesus to be a person of integrity, someone who made right judgements, someone who made no attempt to hide who He was. Peter could count on the fact that Jesus did not lie or mislead, nor would He disappoint or leave him in times of trouble. Peter knew that without fail, Jesus was who He said He was! He had been an eye witness to all that Jesus did and all that Jesus said. Peter had faith in Jesus. His faith and trust was exactly where it should be in the person of Jesus Christ.

In today's world there is NO ONE who can every time, every where, in every thing claim even one of the qualities that embodies Jesus. This world will always disappoint and leave you wanting more and better. This is not pessimism...it is fact! There is One however, that can fully supply all of your needs, One who will never leave you or turn His back on you, One who is true and "faithful to complete the good work He began in you" and One who is "the same yesterday, today and forever".

I encourage you today to take hold of God's Word each day and you will see that only He is fully trust worthy and will never let you down. Be strong in the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ who longs to hear your cries and dry your tears!

NO BACK-UP PLAN!

For those of you who are new to the blog you may be wondering why I decided to name it “No Back-up Plan”. It seemed right based on the number of times I was asked that very question over the last 30 days alone. It’s a question that has both bewilder and encouraged. Let me regress…

We left Germany in 2006, moved to Whitehouse Texas and began a wonderful season of life as “country folk”. Mark and I embraced all that that meant; we raised cows, goats, chickens, the occasional pig and a few turkey. We gardened and sold farm fresh eggs; I baked bread and canned everything you can imagine. In 2009 as God led we began witnessing to people that came to the house to buy eggs and bread. No one came or left without getting as much Jesus as they would stand still for. Soon people started to bring their children to see all the farm animals and their babies! It became a weekly and anticipated day of the week for people and wonderful for us! In 2011 a tornado of great magnitude hit Joplin Missouri and our church put out a call for anyone who wanted to go on a mission trip to help with the disaster relief project. God had placed a strong desire on my heart to go, He provided an 8 person team and we left. Since we had a full and functioning farm and now ministry Mark had to stay home to hold down the fort. We were gone 10 days and I returned with a new enthusiasm to serve God whenever and wherever I could. While I was gone on the mission trip God placed a new desire in the heart of my husband to “GO ye therefor”. This would open the doors to where we are today. As we continue to blog together I will elaborate on these stories but for now…here we were in 2015; I was teaching bible studies in Tyler and at the house, and an adult class Sunday school teacher. Mark was being the hands and feet of the Lord helping the elderly and disabled and most recently we were both youth Pastors at a local church. At every turn God blessed and grew us both in wisdom and compassion for the lost. As On the GO Mission grew we became more and more involved in our community and further and further from the mission that God had placed on Marks heart.

In August 2015 a shift began to take place; door after door was closed to everything that we were doing. Suffice it to say we were being redirected and the fingerprint of God was all over it. Some closed doors were easy, almost a relief but others were much, much harder and I was at a breaking point. One night I looked at Mark with tears rolling down my face and asked “what is going on”? He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said “we are not supposed to be here”. He was right and we immediately we began to pray and move back towards the mission Mark was given. We began preparing the house for sale; painting, making repairs, cleaning etc. It was now the beginning of December and not going near as fast as I felt it should be so I started asking God to send someone to buy the house at a fair price, as is, and let us get on with the mission. Mid-December God prompted Mark to make ready for sale the tractor and the truck. In obedience he stopped working on the house and focused on the vehicles. He put the tractor by the road with a “for sale” sign on it in the morning and it sold before lunch. A few days later he put the truck by the road with a “for sale” sign, on a Saturday morning, in the rain and it sold before lunch. A few days later I get a texted from a lady that knows a lady who wants to look at the house to buy it! We had not listed the house nor did we know the lady that wanted to look at it! Two days later she came, looked at the house, and made a fair offer…”as is”, we accepted, bought and moved into the RV…yesterday we closed on the house and have begun the process of buying the truck to pull the RV!

In every single moment and at every single turn God has moved us towards this very moment in time. He has done so in such a way that His hand has been clearly seen. God is the plan; He is the only plan. He has orchestrated everything and set our feet on a right path. We will continue  “Going Where God Leads” knowing that His plan requires No Back-up Plan!
